The Truth About Abdominal Conditioning

Why is it that doing more, more, more crunches and eating less, less, less calories are both flawed strategies for a flat stomach? For starters:

  1. Your body can only produce so much growth hormone at a time.  You can do crunches every day to exhaustion and actually be counter-productive.
  2. Too much abdominal work in one area will actually warp your posture and cause you to appear slouched over.
  3. Calorie-reduced diets can temporarily reduce weight or a fat layer.  But the body will often over compensate and slow down to conserve energy.
  4. Too much pain is associated with training and eating.  Eventually, the mind wants to avoid this pain approach and you start “forgetting” exercise or diet.

The self-punishing exhaustion-starvation routines might sell more magazines and diet foods, but it will not give you the vitality and functional strength that my program will give you.  Namely:

  • BODY ALIGNMENT
  • BREATHING TECHNIQUES
  • MUSCLE CONTROL
  • MODIFIED BEHAVIOR

Even muscular people have problems with rounded shoulders, tilted pelvises, tight backs and warped postures.  Misaligned bodies tend to be functionally weaker and more accident prone than aligned bodies.  Gymnasts, martial artists, professional dancers and yoga experts strive for maximum strength WITHOUT THE BULK.

Breathing techniques and Muscle Control accelerate your stomach flattening and put you ahead of the pack.  Once learned, you can practice these methods almost anywhere.

Many of us have a limited amount of willpower.  That is, we can work long hours with steady physical and mental intensity, but later, run out of mental effort to exercise, eat and sleep right.  Anyone who has raised a family, built a business and/or worked their way through college or university often found it difficult to practice good health during their free time. 

Modifying behavior puts your health and fitness habits on auto pilot

To re-program good habits, you have to follow a series of small routines.  I learned these subtle, but effective methods, from decades of instructing the military, dogs, self-defense and fitness classes as well as from taking university courses in behavioral psychology.   It is the small, repetitive “shaping” activities that build the strength and confidence of the trainee.

I was able to use these techniques when I entered university at age 39.  I was able to raise my D grade to a B in Biology and later graduate from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science (Foods and Nutrition).   Not bad for a C+ average high school student.  The same behavioral practices enabled me to run marathons, climb Mt. Rainier and write books.

When you program stomach flattening habits, they become as natural as brushing your teeth or combing your hair.

Eventually, these good habits become so ingrained in you that you will miss the habits if you stop doing them.  Once you “get your groove,” you’ll be amazed at how simple a flatter stomach is.
